Landscape Improvement at Holy Trinity, Bronington
Caring for God’s Acre and Holy Trinity Church are joining forces to improve the landscape in the churchyard at Holy Trinity, Bronington. Thanks to a grant from the Meres & Mosses Community Partnership Scheme new habitat will be created, invasive species removed and a new kissing gate giving better access to the Meres & mosses area installed. There will also be a fingerpost and interpretation panel giving walkers and visitors information on the local area.
The wildlife pond will be improved with a new supporting wall and removal of vegetation which is shading the water. Rhododendron will be cut from the bank, allowing more sunlight onto the pond surface. The increased light and water temperature will benefit aquatic life such as the many dragonflies which breed in the pond. The area cleared of rhododendron will be planted up with colourful spring flowers and woodland copse trees such as hazel, which will provide food for small mammals such as wood mice. In the new churchyard wildflower meadows will be created in the grassland with more spring flowers planted alongside the hedge. The visual impact will be great, giving a colouful entrance into the churchyard.
To promote and encourage access onto the surrounding Meres & Mosses landscape a new kissing gate will replace a rotten one and new information signage is being designed. This will be installed in the churchyard encouraging visitors to venture into the area and giving them information about the landscape, wildlife and heritage of the area.
The project is also a fantastic opportunity for you, the local community to get involved. We need your help! A day of cutting and burning rhododendron is planned with a follow up day to plant the colourful display in the cleared area. We will have a blank canvas and need your help and ideas on how to plant it. A third practical day will be to plant up the wildflower meadow. If you can help with any of the practical work or want to know more please contact Ben Mullen at Caring for God’s Acre 01588 673041 ben@cfga.org.uk or Edward Wardle edwardwardle527@btinternet.com
